Colorado Hosts Movie Premier:  “In Pursuit of A Dream”

Red Carpet to roll out at Loveland ’s Rialto Theatre.

Limo’s, no. Wagons, yes!

Independence, MO—July 28, 2009— Instead of the stars of the show arriving in limousines to begin the walk on the red carpet, stars of “In Pursuit of a Dream,” a broadcast television program premiering at Loveland’s Rialto Theatre, will arrive in wagons.  Very fitting for a movie about those who desired to pursue a better life and endured the hardships of travel on the Oregon Trail.

The premier is a part of the Oregon-California Trails Association (OCTA) Annual Convention in Loveland, Colorado August 18-22, 2009. This is the first time the nation’s largest historic trails organization has convened its major conference in Colorado.  The Colorado-Cherokee Trail Chapter of OCTA will host the event, bringing hundreds of trails enthusiasts to Colorado.  The convention also celebrates the Sesquicentennial of the Colorado Gold Rush of 1859.

The movie, conceived three years ago by OCTA as a result of a private donation and additional cooperation from the National Park Service and other donors, was intended to describe the hardships traveling on the Oregon Trail.

Candy Moulton, a western historian, author, journalist and the films director said “we knew we needed to tell this story from a fresh perspective. We thought we could weave the story of hardships from the journals and experiences of pioneer children on the trail.

“Finally, we said hey, let’s take some kids out on the trail. Put them on a wagon train and let them learn about the history of trail, the experience of traveling as the pioneers did, and film that.”

Two years of planning culminated with 24 students from six states; three teachers; five wagons pulled by horses and mules (driven by experienced teamsters); three outriders; three cooks; a crew of ten and a support crew of six together for two rugged weeks on the trail.

Plans for the film, produced by Boston Productions in cooperation with the Oregon-California Trails Association, include it to be shown on television and in schools throughout the country about what it was like to be an emigrant traveling West on a wagon train.

In addition to the premier at 7:30 p.m. on August 19 at the Rialto Theatre in Loveland, encore presentations will be shown at the Rialto on August 20 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on Friday, August 21 as part of the Wyoming Film Festival in Saratoga Springs, WY.

The Rialto Theater is located at 228 E. 4th Avenue, Loveland, CO.   Please call 888-811-6282 for the premier and the Rialto Theatre at 970-962-2120 for tickets to the encore presentations.

The 27th annual OCTA conference, open to the public, will be held at the The Ranch, Larimer County Fairgrounds and Events Complex, 5280 Arena Circle Loveland, Colorado 80538 (I-25 Exit 259) 970-619-4000.

Further information about the convention including the complete event schedule, registration information, details about speakers, tours and more can be found at www.octa-colorado.org.
